AI tools

As a student at Lund University, you can use two different generative AI tools with your student account: Microsoft Copilot Chat and Google Gemini.

AI tools can be used for many different purposes in an academic context, but it is important that you take responsibility for your use of AI. As a student, this means, among other things, that you must never use AI to replace your own learning and that you must never claim to have created something yourself that an AI tool has generated for you.

It is also important to consider what you input into the AI tools. Even when logged in with your student account, you must never enter

  • sensitive personal data or patient data
  • full-text copyrighted material
  • other students’ work
  • unpublished research material
  • internal documents that must not be shared externally.

Microsoft Copilot Chat

As a student at Lund University, you can use your student account to log in to Microsoft Copilot Chat in your web browser. Copilot Chat is the web version of Copilot, which can, for example, generate content, provide alternative suggestions or mimic a discussion partner. However, as a student, you do not have access to the more advanced Copilot licence that can be integrated into Microsoft’s other tools.

Always log in with your student account when using Copilot for your studies. When you are logged in with your student account, Microsoft’s corporate data protection applies. This means that your prompts are not used to train Microsoft’s AI models. Other users within the university cannot see your material.

Getting started with Copilot

Google Gemini

Gemini is Google’s generative AI tool. You can use Gemini, just like Google’s other services, with your student account.

When you use Gemini with your student account, enterprise protection applies, which means that your prompts and your data are not used to train Google’s models. The chat history is saved so that you can return to old chats.

Always use your student account when using Gemini for study purposes, even if you have a private Gmail account.
